Kumbhalanghi Village
Near the port town of Kochi lies Kumbalangi—a village with a vast stretch of backwaters connected by interlocking waterways to the whole of Kerala. This is an ideal setting for countryside boat cruises, fishing and crab farming. Selected by the Kerala Tourism Department as the first model tourism village in the state, Kumbalangi boasts a rich culture of exotic local cuisines, boat building and masonry, manually operated coir looms, fish farms and more. Arriving by traditional boat, you’ll experience a variety of village activities on this island. See the many different methods of making coir from the husk of the coconut, watch crabs being caught and witness kalaripayattu—a traditional martial art form. Take in the tranquil landscape and meet the friendly local people, who depend largely on nature for their survival. At the conclusion of your visit, board a tuk-tuk (auto rickshaw) to connect with the coach for the drive back to the ship.
